So is the digital media making us stupid as Nicholas Carr maintains, or, is it as Nick Bilton says, simply “creatively disrupting” our brains.
In his book titled,
The Shallows, Carr argues that there are cultural and intellectual consequences and there aren’t positive.
On the other side, Bilton, the lead writer for the
NY Times Bits Blog points out that all major technological innovations, from the telephone on, have been met with anxiety and suspicion.
Who’s right? Probably both of them, with the truth somewhere in between, Technology giveth and technology taketh away. And when one generation replaces another, we barely remember what was lost and how life was previously.
